About Colonic Irrigation

While few would argue the importance diet plays in achieving and maintaining optimum health, the removal of toxic waste from our bodies is important too. Good health is a reflection of balance–including the balance of good food going in and waste products being efficiently eliminated. At Inner Fire, my goal is to detoxify you if you have never done a cleanse, help you get regular if your elimination is insufficient or help you maintain the balance you now enjoy!

FAQ's

What is a colonic?

A colonic irrigation using the Wood gravity method is an internal bath that helps cleanse the colon of gas, mucus and accumulated fecal matter.  There is no discomfort, no internal pressure, just a steady gentle flow in and out of the colon.

How is a colonic administered?

A person receiving a colonic is lying on a masage table below the temperature-controlled holding tank.  A sterilized cannula is gently inserted in the rectum.  Water flow, which is always under the direct control of the practitioner, flows into the colon via a small tube and out through a wider evacuation tube, carrying with it waste from the body.  As the water flows out, the practitioner gently massages the abdomen and acupressure points to help the body release.  It is possible to see this expelled waste through a clear section of the outflow tubing.  The person is well covered by a full length cloth exam gown and modesty is given top priority during the session.

How many colonics do I need?

The number of treatments will always vary with the individual and his/her condition.  Some people may not have startling results for the first few treatments.  This is why a series of treatments is often necessary and advisable.  Once the colon is clean, it is advisable to have a colonic with regularity to maintain bowel health.  Some visit once a month, others at the change of season for a short series of two or three.

Will colonics damage the normal intestinal bacteria?

No.  One of the functions of the first half of the colon is to gather the intestinal flora needed for the colon.  When the accumulation of feces in the bowel leads to impaction, it is difficult for the colon to function normally and the glands in this lining cannot produce the necessary intestinal flora.  This upsets the normal acid-alkaline balance and the growth of friendly bacteria is slowed.  Cleansing the colon will help bring the acid-alkaline ratio back into balance.  By adding acidophilus during the colon cleansing program, the friendly bacteria will again thrive and the body will begin to reproduce its own bacterial balance.

What are the benefits of colonic irrigation?

Colonics offer relief from a variety of disturbances by cleansing the colon of impacted and putrefactive fecal matter.  Constipation, gas and bloating, headaches, skin problems, fatigue are among the many problems people have found relieved by colon cleansing.  Your sense of well-being is often dramatically improved with colon cleansing.  You feel lighter, more energetic.

Is there special preparation for a colonic?

Do not eat two hours before your visit.  I ask my clients to maintain their usual diet before a treatment if they have specific digestive complaints.  I want them to see how a session goes and as we "clean up" their diet, to see how much more "productive" the sessions get.   Mucus-forming foods--dairy products, wheat flour, sugar--are good things to eliminate in preparation for cleansing.
